TEHRAN (IQNA) – There are many points mentioned in the Quran and Hadiths about the effects of paying Khums.

Benefits of paying Khums

 

Some of these points about Khums in Islam are as follows:

1- Pure Generation

According to Hadiths, paying Khums will purify one’s wealth and that is a prelude to having a pure generation.

2- Strengthening the religion

Imam Reza (AS) said that Khums is the right of the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) and support for their path and school.

3- Sign of commitment  

We read in another Hadith that a true Muslim is one who is committed to the divine covenant and that one who answers positively with his tongue but negatively in heart is not truly Muslim.

4- Helping friends

Imam Reza (AS) said Khums is a means with which we help our relatives and friends.

5- Purity of wealth

Imam Sadiq (AS) said that by taking the dirhams from people (as Khums), he has no other intention than purifying their money.

6- Making incomes sweet

In another Hadith, Imam Sadiq (AS) said that anyone who pays Khums, the rest of his income will be sweet for him.

7- Safeguarding reputation against opponents

Imam Reza (AS) said that Khums helps safeguard the reputation of the followers f Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS.

8- Removing poverty from descendants of the Holy Prophet (PBUH)

Imam Kashim (AS) said that God has reserved half of Khums for removing poverty from the descendants of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) who cannot benefit from Zakat and Sadaqa.

9- It is a Compensation for sins and a reserve for the Resurrection Day

Imam Reza (AS) said that removing Khums from one’s money causes his sins to be forgiven and it will serve as a reserve for the Day of Resurrection.

10- Guarantee for paradise

A person went to Imam Baqir (AS) and paid his Khums. Imam (AS) said it is necessary for him and his father to guarantee paradise for that person.

11- Receiving Imam’s prayers

Imam Reza (AS) said: “Khums is helping us in preserving the (Ahl-ul-Bayt’s) school.” He then said, “Try not to deprive yourselves of our prayer as much as you can.”

12- Key to sustenance

Imam Reza (AS) said: “Paying Khums is key to your sustenance.”

13- Order and discipline in one’s capital

One who calculates his Khums and pays it every year, is a person of order and discipline.

Imam Baqir (AS) said: “The highest perfection is in three things: Having profound knowledge of religion, steadfastness in the face of adversities, and having order and planning in life.

14- Special blessings

Those who pay Khums will certainly receive God’s special attention and blessings.   

Doesn’t the Quran say, “So remember Me, I will remember you,”? (Verse 152 of Surah Al-Baqarah)

Doesn’t the Quran say, “If you do good, it will be for your own benefit,”? (Verse 7 of Surah Al-Isra)

Doesn’t the Quran say, “And when you are greeted with a greeting, greet with better than it, or return it. Allah is the Reckoner of all things,”? (Verse 86 of Surah An-Nisa)

Doesn’t the Quran say, “Believers, if you help God, He will help you and make you steadfast (in your faith),”? (Verse 7 of Surah Muhammad)

Doesn’t the Quran say, “Surely Allah loves the doers of good,”? (Verse 195 of Surah Al-Baqarah)

Yes, it does. And one who pays Khums will be included among those to whom the above-mentioned verses refer.
